Day 1 May 14, 2005 Depart the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge by chartered coach for a scenic ride to Alyeska Resort, your next overnight. Along the way, visit the Alaska Native Heritage Center to learn about the Native Cultures in Alaska, see traditional dwellings and watch a Native Dance group perform. A small caf sells light items for lunch or a snack. Continue to Alyeska along the spectacular Turnagain Arm. Watch the rocky cliffs to see Dall Sheep. The tides in this area change up to 27 in 12 hours, revealing a muddy quicksand-like beach at low tide. Upon arrival to the Alyeska Resort, the remainder of the day is at your leisure. Note: While staying in Girdwood, you may like to visit the Kobuk Valley Jade Company or Crow Creek Mine. Maybe you prefer to pamper yourself in the spa at the resort. Dont miss taking the tram to the top of Mt. Alyeska for dinner with an incredible view of seven glaciers and the Turnagain Arm.
Day 2 May 15, 2005 Take the hotel shuttle to the Alaska Railroad Depot. (Please reconfirm shuttle transfer time with bell staff.) Board the Alaska Railroad for a breathtaking journey through the Portage Valley, past Spencer and Grandview Glaciers, through a series of five tunnels and over the pass to Seward. Keep a sharp look out for moose, mountain goats and black bears this time of year! Upon arrival in Seward, meet the Seward Windsong Lodge shuttle with your luggage. The shuttle driver will take you to the Alaska SeaLife Center and deliver your luggage to the lodge. While at the Alaska SeaLife Center, explore beneath the surface on this self-guided tour through the only cold water marine research facility in the western hemisphere! Learn about the research and rehabilitation of marine wildlife rescued in Alaska. Stop by the touch tank and feel the rough edge of a sea star or the prickly sea urchin, soft sea cucumbers or sea anemones and more! The lodge shuttle will transfer you to the Resurrection Roadhouse for a delicious lunch. Following lunch, visit the sled dog kennel of 2004 Iditarod Champion, Mitch Seavey. See how an Alaskan musher trains their sled dogs and continues the great tradition of mushing in Alaska! You will even have the opportunity to ride behind a team of dogs through a training course set up to keep the dogs in shape all year long. After the tour, transfer to the Seward Windsong Lodge for a two night stay. Our on site restaurant - the Resurrection Roadhouse, complimentary shuttle and warm fireplace in the lobby will make you feel right at home at this Alaskan lodge. Note: Resurrection Roadhouse specials often include Baby Back ribs with mango BBQ sauce, smoked chicken breast, halibut, Alaskan salmon, gourmet pizzas and burgers along with delicious salads and desserts. Extensive wine list and large variety of microbrews on tap.
Day 3 May 16, 2005 Transfer to Kenai Fjords Tours and board our custom sightseeing vessel for our most popular tour! Go where the action is with our experienced captain and crew. This exciting wildlife and glacier cruise takes passengers into the heart of Kenai Fjords National Park. Visit one of the largest tidewater glaciers in Kenai Fjords National Park. Sightings of bald eagles, common murres, cormorants, kittiwakes, and various other sea birds are common as we cruise through the Alaska Maritime Wildlife Refuge, the summer nesting area for thousands of horned and tufted puffins. Cruise near the Chiswell Islands, view Steller sea lions in their natural habitat. Sea otters, harbor seals and Dall porpoise are also common sights. Quite often our guests watch as orca, or killer whales, and humpback whales play and feed. A hot lunch is served on board and later in the day we stop at our exclusive Fox Island Day Lodge for freshly grilled Alaskan salmon. Return to the Seward Windsong Lodge for another relaxing overnight.
Day 4 May 17, 2005 Today is at leisure before your flight home. You may want to sleep in and then spend the afternoon shopping or take a tour to Exit Glacier if the weather permits. If you are the early bird of the group, take a morning fishing excursion so youll have time to get the fish packed before you head home. Whatever you decide, make sure you enjoy the unspoiled beauty of Alaska before you depart this magical place!
